Congratulations Jessica. All 3 of us were immediately struck by this photo. We love the lines made by the lamp posts and the complimentary curves beneath. The straight vertical lines of the railing are a nice contrast and the foggy skyline in the background is icing on the cake. Great photo! In addition to Jessica’s pic, we also received a bunch of really awesome photos. A few of them stuck out so much that we thought they also deserve a mention:

Photographer: Rach. This shot tells a really cool story. I mean, what kid doesn’t love chasing ducks?

Photographer: Natasha. The lighting in this shot is just plain awesome, and the whole picture tells a sweet story, too.

Photographer: Melonie. Another great story–hmmm, common theme seems to be developing. The colors are also super sweet in this shot.

Photographer: Sarah. Great colors. Really cool composition. And the rain spilling out of the gutter is super cool.

Photographer: Ann. Really awesome perspective–so unique it almost becomes abstract, which is a very cool idea.

1. The establishing shot. Establishes context and mood. Usually a wider shot.

2. The medium shot. Gets in closer and shows the main players in the story.

3. The detail shot. Shows relevant details, close in shots.

4. The portrait. Self explanatory.

5. The moment. Captures the peak of action.

6. The closer. Puts the story to bed, wraps things up.

• Much (and I mean MUCH) larger viewing area. The photos are now front and center, where they belong.
• An option to view the photos on either a white or black background (that could be my favorite part).
• A gallery page where you can see past One Photo Per Day and other images from each of us.
• A blog page (you’re lookin’ at it) where we can tell stories, give the occasional tutorial, and run contests like the first ever f/4 Photography Point & Shoot Contest.
• A new “about us” page where you can read up on One Photo Per Day or each of our individual bios.
• A new “contact us” page where you can send us all your thoughts, pics, complaints, or–dare I say–the occasional booking request.

What’s not changing? The photography. Still the same old brothers taking turns posting one pic every single day and offering their honest and helpful critiques to one another. Oh, and there’s plenty of room for others to comment, too …
